The All purpose target was kindly sent to us for testing by Just Shoot Me Products. The idea of the All purpose target is similar to the sniper training cube we tested earlier. The All purpose target however is significantly lighter and shaped completely different. Like with the sniper cube the idea is a that with each shot the target moves to different location at a different distance making the shooting much more challenging and rewarding than with regular paper targets.
The All Purpose Target
The material of which the target is manufactured is similar to the sniper cube so we had no reservations this time about it's durability. After all the sniper cube we tested last year, has taken a lot of punishment and it's still in working condition today.
The only problem we had with the sniper cube earlier was that it wasn't very good when shot with lighter calibers like .45 or 9mm. It's square shape and weight just made it hard to get it "moving" even on flat ground. It needs to be mentioned that the sniper training cube is not supposed to work when shot with handgun calibers. In fact the manufacturers web site advises not to shoot it with pistol calibers.
Unlike the sniper cube The All purpose target proved to be very lively with all calibers we tested (9mm, .45, 223.) Like with the sniper cube too much vegetation or in our case snow will stop it from moving, but if you can shoot it on a reasonably flat ground it works great! In fact, because of the shape and light weight, it will work on a crusted snow too if you don't miss too much and shoot away the snow from under it.
Because of the difficult weather conditions (too much snow) we had some trouble getting enough shots at the target to test it's durability. It kept disappearing in the knee deep snow. We resolvedthe issue by drilling a hole in the target and mounted it on a string on the target stands. Not a simple task by the way. The material is indeed is self sealing.
In total we shot the The All purpose target with about 100 rounds of .223 and about 50 rounds of pistol ammo and it came out ok. We will do more shooting and update the review as the spring progresses and the weather improves. So far it's looking very good and we like this one even better than the sniper cube due to the ability to use it with almost any caliber weapon.
pros
+ works as promised
+ safe to shoot
cons
- yellow is not the best color for winter conditions, opt for the black version if you are planning on shooting it on light colored sand or snow.
Stars * * * * * so far...
