Polymer Targets

The Pistol Cube, from Just Shoot Me, is a 4” cube of incredibly strong ballistic polymer, shaped with hollow parts so that, when shot, it will move in an unpredictable way. The shooter can then reacquire a sight picture for another shot. You can literally chase the little guy across the range, one shot at a time! Lots of fun for one or more folks - just toss it on the ground and start shooting - any pistol caliber, any pistol ammo. The Pistol Cube comes in orange for $50. They last for thousands of rounds!

The All Around target is a 6” diameter polymer ball, which comes in orange, yellow and black cut like the cube so it will roll as well as scoot around the range when it is hit with pistol, rifle, or shotgun fire. It's $65. The Small Caliber bullet-shaped target is perfect for shooters with .22 or .25 caliber guns, rifles or pistols, comes in many different colors and is $27.50. Prairie Dog targets (not shown) can be used with all rimfire and centerfire calibers, comes in many colors and is priced at $39.50. The vibrant colors show up on snowy ground, and give a clear sight picture. Be sure to use them only in locations where ricochets from ground shots will not cause any problems.

Mid-South Hunting & Fishing May07

Mid-South Hunting & Fishing May07
by Spence Dupree

It is said by some that spring fishing starts when the dogwood leaves are the same size of a mouse's ear. The same measurement has special a meaning for shooters as well. It is time to start preparing for that most casual, most relaxing, most fun-overall shooting sport commonly known as plinking and mostly practiced with .22 rifles and handguns. The fine art of plinking started for many of us with the ownership of that first double-deuce. Mine was a used model 55A Remington autoloader. When I finally traded it years later, it had been shot so much that a small hole had been worn through the bolt web.

Much of that plinking time was spent on West Tennessee's wild river, the Hatchie. We spent spring days sinking imaginary navies comprised of floating sticks and a tin can or two. Then there were gum balls harvested from the ground and lined up in rows of charging “soldiers”, only to be picked off one at a time with the trusty .22s.

As I grew older, my love for this most informal shooting sport never diminished. The search for exciting targets never ceased either. Punching paper targets is find if you are sighting in a rifle or pistol, but true “plinking” requires a more active target, one that talks back to you when it's hit.

Of course, when we were shooting into the river, the splash when the bullets struck the water gave excellent feedback - that is, sound and sight, and even shot correction info. Only problem is, I couldn't be on the river whenever I wanted to shoot, so the search for the ideal targets continued. We tried everything from old tennis balls to charcoal chunks. Yes, I'll admit even glass bottles were busted sometimes, but that made too much of a mess and also presented a safety issue.

Well, I think I have finally succeeded in finding the number one, fantastic, incredibly durable target. A product of “Just Shoot Me Products” (JSMP), these targets are made of a material that reseals when penetrated by a bullet. When I asked JSMP's manager, Gary VanHook, just what the material was, he said with a smile, “Or course due to the innovative nature of it, the formula is proprietary. We call it a ballistic polymer, and I can say that it's based on a urethane polymer.”

All Around Target - SniperWorld

All Purpose Target
by SniperWorld

The All purpose target was kindly sent to us for testing by
Just Shoot Me Products. The idea of the All purpose target is similar to the sniper training cube we tested earlier. The All purpose target however is significantly lighter and shaped completely different. Like with the sniper cube the idea is a that with each shot the target moves to different location at a different distance making the shooting much more challenging and rewarding than with regular paper targets.

The All Purpose Target
The material of which the target is manufactured is similar to the sniper cube so we had no reservations this time about it's durability. After all the sniper cube we tested last year, has taken a lot of punishment and it's still in working condition today.

The only problem we had with the sniper cube earlier was that it wasn't very good when shot with lighter calibers like .45 or 9mm. It's square shape and weight just made it hard to get it "moving" even on flat ground. It needs to be mentioned that the sniper training cube is not supposed to work when shot with handgun calibers. In fact the manufacturers web site advises not to shoot it with pistol calibers.

Unlike the sniper cube The All purpose target proved to be very lively with all calibers we tested (9mm, .45, 223.) Like with the sniper cube too much vegetation or in our case snow will stop it from moving, but if you can shoot it on a reasonably flat ground it works great! In fact, because of the shape and light weight, it will work on a crusted snow too if you don't miss too much and shoot away the snow from under it.

Because of the difficult weather conditions (too much snow) we had some trouble getting enough shots at the target to test it's durability. It kept disappearing in the knee deep snow. We resolvedthe issue by drilling a hole in the target and mounted it on a string on the target stands. Not a simple task by the way. The material is indeed is self sealing.

In total we shot the The All purpose target with about 100 rounds of .223 and about 50 rounds of pistol ammo and it came out ok. We will do more shooting and update the review as the spring progresses and the weather improves. So far it's looking very good and we like this one even better than the sniper cube due to the ability to use it with almost any caliber weapon.

pros
+ works as promised
+ safe to shoot

cons
- yellow is not the best color for winter conditions, opt for the black version if you are planning on shooting it on light colored sand or snow.

Stars * * * * * so far...

Just wanted to comment on your Prairie dog target. I purchased 1 quite awhile back and somehow it became my dogs toy. I have a 65 lb Pit Bull with Unbelievable Jaws on her. What Is Ballistic Polymer?

Ballistic Polymer is the combination of polymeric compounds, elements and processing procedures. The result of this process is a material that is:

- Self sealing. Depending on the caliber used, will reseal up to 90%
- Capable of handling any caliber from Airsoft to .50BMG, at point blank range
- Lightweight
- Weather proof: Resistant to rust, temperature, and UV rays
- Noncombustible
- Environmentally safe
- Manufactured in multiple colors: Orange, Red, White, Blue, Yellow and Black

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE SHOOTER?

Dramatically Improved Safety

- Eliminates the threat of ricochet.
- Eliminates the cutting hazards associated with rusty metal targets, and splintered wood.

Reduced Cost Per Round

- Because of the resilient nature of Ballistic Polymer, our targets are incredibly durable. Many of our targets are designed to take tens of thousands of hits.
- Elimination of medical costs due to ricochet and other injuries associated with steel and wood targets.

Increased Shooting Enjoyment

- Great reactivity
- Realistic designs
- Large selection of colors and designs provides for a wide range of training and gaming activities

Just Shoot Me Targets Durable

TARGETS FROM JUST SHOOT ME PRODUCTS ARE MADE OF BALLISTIC POLYMER, WHICH LETS BULLETS PASS THROUGH WITH LITTLE DAMAGE.

Finding the right system to receive lead is just as important as the right tool to throw it. You must have targets suited to your type of shooting.

Of course, the most common target - and the one I use to see what my bullet is doing - is the paper target. Cowboy matches are shot with steel targets, and three-gun contests use steel and silhouette paper targets. Then there's plinking, which is always fun but not known as skill builder.

Innovative, Reactive
Lately, I've been using a new type of target, made by Just Shoot Me Products, that fits almost any situation. It's made of ballistic polymer, which lets bullets pass through with little damage to the target. The hole seems to close, so the targets last a long time. In some cases, the target will actually catch a bullet and hold it.

The target eliminates bullet splatter, which is common with steel; so it's a safe alternative for combat shooting in close quarters. I don't see it replacing steel in cowboy matches, but it makes a great practice target you can shoot again and again.

The company makes hanging and silhouette targets that are great for precision shooting and close-quarters practice.

2006 CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE

JUST SHOOT ME PRODUCTS makes the most challenging, craziest-jumpin', lead-eating reactive targets in the world, and the Pistol Cube (that weird orange X-block) is nothing but a blast, leaping up to eight feet in the air when hit! Hollowpoints may chew some holes in the polymer material, but it still has a lifespan of 5,000 to 10,000 rounds. The smaller "winged paddle-wheels" are Small Caliber Cubes, made for .17s, .22s and other petite pills, and like the Pistol Cube, they'll spin, roll, jump, and always leave you with an attainable target sight picture. Shoot 'em up! - and Merry Christmas to all!
